What Do I Need To Do To Open My Own Insurance Agency.?

I am looking to get my insurance license and then open my own agency. What do I need to do open my own agency. Do I need to buy any software program that has different underwriting companies I can go through. ie when you go to a broker and they search for the best rate. I am in Califronia.

Answer: You need a spouse who can supplement the family income for a while, and prepare to be broke, and working hard. Statistics show an average of 3-5 years it takes a new agency to start making profit. Ask any veteran agency owner and they will tell you the same. You must have a spouse making money or you'll go broke and lose it... It's a numbers and retention game.

Answer: Too many variables to give you what you need to know here. What kind of insurance? Are you already licensed?

To greatly simplify the answer first you need to learn the type of insurance that you want to sell. There are schools or self-study courses that you'll need to take. You will then take a test that is administered by the department of insurance for your state. If you pass the test you are then able to get your license. Then you will lease an office, maybe hire someone to work the phones, and start selling.

Be aware that less than 5% actually make it the first year so it is not an easy field. After you get your license you may be better off if you work with

If so, then are women only driving insurance agencies not sexist??
@Thats What She Said- That women are allowed female only insurance agencies, and men are not....Whats the point?? You figure it out.

Answer: Yes but its OK in reverse because women are oppressed and men are oppressors.

Answer: Contact State Farm, Allstate, or Farmers and tell them you want to. Then you pay for a license, get training, and sell your b*tt off.

It's hard. If you have no idea how it works, you're better off getting a job in someone else's agency. MOST people wash out the first year because they can't sell enough.
