What Are Some Good Reasonably Priced Health Insurances Out There For Individual Purchase For Early Retirement? |
Question by Lynn | Posted in Insurance
I want to be able to retire early but health insurance is an issue. Any suggestions?
Answer: If you are in good health and generally don't see the doctor for every sniffle a high deductible HSA qualified plan may be best for you. The premium is less and you can (if desired)open up a separate HSA account that works much like an IRA. You put money into the account pre-tax and take it out for the occasional doctor visit or medication tax exempt. The money that you don't withdraw rolls over every year, earning tax deferred interest. There is a lot more to be knowledgeable about these plans than we can go into here. You may want to visit a local independent agent to compare plans.
Stay away from medical discount plans. If you can find a doctor that takes those plans your cost |

If There Was Affordable Health Insurance Would There Be Early Retirements And Jobs For The Youth? |
Question by doug g | Posted in Insurance
I know several that work just for the health insurance.
Answer: Years ago for my parents and most people who grew up in the last 70 to 80 years, when you retired, most companies paid a pension and continued your health insurance. So when you hit 65, medicare kicked in and your old employer picked up the supplement health, you had a pension plus social security. That's pretty good since like in my fathers case, he retired at age 55 with all of the above benefits.
Today that is not the case, most employers are dropping health insurance for retirees due to the high cost. Very few employers provide pensions anymore and now we have 401K that we have to pay a high percentage of the cost with some help from our employers, but we are at risk that |

Are There Any (non-employer) Health Insurance Options For Early Retirees? |
Question by Taylor B | Posted in Insurance
My husband and I would love to plan for early retirement in a few years - the one obstacle seems to be health insurance. Neither of our employers provide health insurance after leaving the job (no matter when.) We will be in our late 50's (in a few years when we would like to retire) and have one 10yo child - could relocate if necessary after retirement. From what I've been reading it looks like family heath insurance costs are over $1000 per month! Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated!!
Answer: Depending upon your health status and location you should be able to get a good comprehensive policy for less than $1000 per month.
AARP writes their health insurance through United Health, which is a very good company and certainly worth a look. However, the policies have fewer benefits than most and the premium is nearly the same. You should visit a local independent agent. This person knows the market in your area and can compare the different plans (AARP included) and can suggest several plans that would be best for your situation.
Medicare is not available until you reach 65 unless you've been disabled for 2 years. |
