Are You Legally Required To Have Caravan Insurance? |
We have just purchased a caravan and want to go away in it for the weekend but have been told about getting insurance for it, we didnt realise there was such a thing and were wondering if this is a legal requirement.
| Answer: If you are based in the uk the answer is probably no you don't have to legally have specific insurance for it. If you look at your car insurance it will probably say you are covered to tow a trailer. that means you would be covered at least third party if anything happened and your trailer hit another vehicle for example. However your trailer (caravan )probably won't be covered for the cost of any damage to it. I don't know long you have had a driving licence, if you've had it a long time, before 1st January 1997, you are probably licenced to tow a trailer, after that date the law changed and you have to pass a seperate test to tow a trailer over a certain weight.
