How Do You Acquire Workman's Compensation Insurance For Small Business? |
Question by lost online | Posted in Insurance
Starting small business in Oklahoma is looking for workman's compensation insurance and is unsure where or who to contact to get it.
Answer: Check your Yellow Pages for an independent agent in your area. An independent agent represents more than one company so they are able to provide you competitive quotes. Also ask about General Liability insurance as you will need that as well.

What Private Insurance Company Offers The Lowest Rate In Workman's Compensation Insurance? |
Question by JAKI S | Posted in Insurance
I own a single member LLC in California.
My business is graphic design and I would like to hire just 1 employee.
This employee would be doing part-time design work (computer based & freehand drawings) at my place of business.
Since I am a new business owner I have no previous policy.
Can someone please recommend a good, low cost, private insurance company for the required worker's compensation?
By the way, I already contacted
| Answer: You should contact a local independent insurance agent who specializes in commercial lines. My suggestion would be an agent who represents Travelers Insurance Company. Based on the type of business you have, you should have no problem obtaining a Commercial Package policy to include coverage for your Commercial General Liability and Office Equipment. They will also include a separate policy for Workers Compensation and will even quote you an Umbrella and will set up all of these on monthly payments on account billing. The Agent that represents Travelers will also probably be able to offer you quotes with a couple of other companies but Travelers is extremely competitive and will have no problem |

Who Has To Carry Workman's Compensation Insurance? |
Question by Paul | Posted in Insurance
If a NJ S corporation is owned by a single person, and the only employees are is spouse and grown children, are they required to carry workman's compensation insurance?
Answer: The actual laws vary by state.
So, the corporation is the employer. NJ is particularly inflexible. In NJ, if an employer has ONE employee, they must buy workers compensation. So, in this case, the corporation is the employer. The major shareholder, the "owner", is an employee, and so is the spouse and grown children.
Even if the "owner" fires the spouse and grown children, the corporation STILL must carry workers comp for the "owner", who, actually, is an employee of the corporation.
There are no exemptions in NJ, and the idea of 'family exemptions' is a myth, when you're talking about a CORPORATION. |

Do I Need Workmen's Compensation Insurance For My Cleaning Business If I Have Only 5 Employees.? |
Question by Anna S | Posted in Small Business
| Answer: You should check on the laws in your state, but I think it is very likely that you need to carry worker's compensation insurance. Usually you obtain this through a private insurer and it is based on your payroll. You could be subject to heavy fines for failing to provide this coverage. |
