In Aust, What Does Private Health Insurance Cover For Pregnancy/birth?

I know health funds require certain waiting period before they cover you for pregnancy/birth related services. If you choose the top cover (and meet the waiting period criteria), what do the heath funds actually help cover? Is it only hospital? or do they cover doctor's fees also? Does Medicare cover anything?

Answer: Medicare covers 85% of the scheduled fee for any doctor, specialist, pathology etc. fees.

If you are treated in a private hospital, your private hospital insurance will cover the Gap which is the difference between the Medicare benefit and the scheduled fee of any of the above if the service is performed in hospital. If your doctor etc. charges more than the schedule fee (and most do, though pathologists usually don't charge much over), you must pay the additional amount. Don't forget that there may be doctors other than your GP or obstetrician e.g. perhaps an anesthetist and/or a pediatrician and the same applies to all of them.

Can Insurance Companies Outside Of Australia Cover Australians For Private Health Cover?

Is it possible to be covered by an overseas insurance company for private health as an Australian citizen?

Answer: It is a tricky question:
On July 01, 2008, APRA published new regulations regarding DOFIs (Direct Offshore Foreign Insurers), reducing dramatically their ability to offer covers to Australian residents.
Therefore, you must have a good reason to purchase health insurance offshore Australia - especially as the Australian health cover is considered very professional, comprehensive and fair.
Saying that, you may still decide to apply for health insurance offshore Australia. The law does not limit you from shopping online or personally for health insurance anywhere in the world.

I Need A Recommendation For Private Health Cover In Australia Please.?

I am single and turned 50 recently.

Although I've had private health insurance for more than 10 years, I'm finding it too hard to find suitable cover from another provider.

Anyone in my situation that has found 'good value' cover with another private health insurance provider?

Answer: Hav you tried ISelect?
It's a free site with comparisons of all the insurers. Take a bit of time seeing what's on offer, then decide, then wait until your chosen one is on a membership drive, when they offer extras like no waiting time or one month free. (This is usually advertised onTV, or you can check this site again from time to time)

Go for one that gives you good benefits NOW, like dental, glasses, physio etc. If you use these, you get most of your remiums back each year. If you are healthy and have no bad family history of illness, you can save with a lower hospital

Do You Think That It Is Wrong To Force Foreign Migrant Workers To Be Covered By Private Health Insurance?

"Tory Home Secretary Theresa May has warned that she is considering forcing firms employing non-EU migrant labour to take out private health insurance to cover them."
I do not.
http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/index .php/news/content/view/full/92181

Answer: No it's not wrong. I think it's right to expect that all foreigners coming here should not get free health care having never contributed one penny into British taxation. And if company bosses insist on employing so-called 'cheap' foreign labour, then perhaps the bosses should pay the immigrant health bill for them. Why should hard working people who have paid taxes all their lives be asked to foot the bill of foreigners that never paid anything in? That's what we've got now, and it's helping to cripple the NHS.

London and NHS, do I need a private health insurance ? Explain me ...

You do not have to pay for a referall or a GP visit – NHS care is free at the point of need for all – that is why we have so many visitors who benefit from it. Are you saying that the French health system is so good that they have never made one... There are long waiting times for a lot of the treatments, which is why so many people buy extra cover. I will search a work in London and still don’t know if my employer will offer an extra care cover. As an EU citizen you will be covered by the NHS. Most dentists in the UK are private now – spaces for fee NHS treatment are very rare so as a visitor you may need to pay – this will cost about £20 per month depending on your oral health – http://www. Don’t know if true or not, e. g. having the choice between waiting 1 month for an appointment and eventually die or pay 100 pounds for a simple emergency visit to a GP (don’t speak about hospitalization. The NHS system has it’s faults like the French system no doubt. You will need to register......
