Can I Drive My Car Even Though My Insurance Papers Haven't Arrived Yet? |

Hi all,
I was wondering if I could drive my car even though my insurance papers haven't arrived yet? Insurance was made over the phone, not online, so I couldn't print any confirmation out. The insurance started when I rang over the phone, but do I still have to wait for papers to arrive?

Answer: yes, you can drive now, if you got pulled over you have 7 days to produce the paperwork at your local police station. however, if you can get the policy number off the insurance company that would help, then you could say 'paperwork hasnt come through yet, but here is the policy number' cos then they can check it on their computer. most companies will email you a copy of your insurance certificate, so you should ask for that.
Also, its possible to check if a cars insured just from the reg plate, you can even do it online (http://www.askmid.com/) so the police shouldnt have a problem finding out all the details.

How Come I Haven't Been Forced To Buy Car Insurance? |

I keep hearing from some people on here that the government forces us to buy car insurance. How come nobody has forced me to buy it?? My roommate also doesn't have car insurance. We live in the city and take public transportation so we always thought we didn't need to buy car insurance. Are we breaking the law?
Also, my brother lives in New Hampshire and he drives a car but said he doesn't have car insurance!! Is he breaking the law?

what is going to happen with both of these issues? How about one on one? Example: pay insurance but no bumper? visa versa?
| Answer: If you haven't paid for insurance for 2 months you have no insurance. Even if you did, the fact that a bumper broke off is not necessarily something insurance would cover anyway |

Why Is My Car On Motor Insurance Database (MID) While I Haven't Bought Insurance Yet? |

I've just bought a used car for my son, received the new log book; however, I haven't bought insurance yet, as I intend to keep the car off road at the moment.
But when I checked my car on the Motor Insurance Database (MID), it recognized my car. Apparently it is ok to drive this car, although I haven't bought insurance for it.
Do you think this is ok, or will I be stopped by the police driving this car?
Answer: Hi, The MID only shows if they have a record of car insurance on it.
It may be that it hasn't been updated yet since the previous owner sold it, or the previous owner hasn't bought their new car yet so hasn't transferred the insurance to another vehicle, however, even if the previous owner still has an insurance policy on that vehicle, unless you are covered by their policy (which is very unlikely) you will not be insured.
If you are stopped and found to be driving without insurance the police will impound you car. you will also be convicted of driving without insurance which can include a large fine and 6 points on your licence (if the driver has passed their test in the |
