Where Can I Get Insurance In The Uk For Buildings And Contents, Critical Illness, And Mortgage Protection?

Im getting a mortgage with Halifax and the quote they have given me is £100 a month! For all this. I have been on the comparison sites and managed to get it down to £35, but it is split up with 3 different insurers. How much should this all cost for 2 young people who dont smoke and are healthy. As i thought £35 was a bit too cheap.

Answer: It is difficult to say the exact figures without knowing the amount of life cover, if it is going to be joint or separate and the amount of critical illness cover to be included.Try using a broker and then you will find out which one is the cheapest. Not every insurance company comes up of comparison sites as they do not want to deal with customers direct at the selling stage.

I Am Looking For A Buildings Insurance For A Residential Standalone Garage I Would Like To Purchase For £15K.

I have contacted various UK brokers and insurance companies for a buildings and contents insurance for a residential garage which is not attached to my property.

Purchasing garages on their own have become very popular, however there does not appear to be any process in place for insurance cover.

I have noted a similar question which someone has provided an answer, however so far no insurance company or broker has a strategy in place for such a cover.

Answer: I have never placed insurance for a single garage on it's own- nor am i aware of any policy available that would do so.

The only suggestion i have would be if all the garages in the block are privately owned then you would have a better response if you formed a Management Association (similar to residents association for insuring blocks of flats) then presented it as a commercial risk and insure the whole lot with a commercial underwriter.

Whilst the risk is presented as a single flat owned by a private individual i think you may struggle.

Do I Have To Buy Buildings And Contents Insurance From My Mortgage Provider?

Am I tied to them or can I shop around? (UK)

Answer: Many years ago, some mortgage lenders used to insist that you bought their (often expensive) home insurance. Thankfully this was stamped out and now you are not tied to them for buildings insurance.

You do have to demonstrate that you have cover but any insurer is happy to issue a certificate to your mortgage lender, it is a fairly common request.

Historically there was a £35 charge made by the mortgage lender to process this 'administration' but I am pretty sure that is also no longer practiced by anyone.

Shop Around!!

Can I Sue My UK Home Insurance Company?

Last summer I took out Buildings and Contents cover with Legal and General - including a 24x7 home emergency facility. With frozen and burst pipes over the holiday period I tried three times on different days, starting Christmas Eve, to use the Emergency facility. Each time I waited nearly an hour to get connected, then they promised a 4 hour callback with a time and date for support. On every occasion - NOBODY called back.
I was left with no water, no heating, and even frozen toilets. If

Answer: You can. However, remember L&G are experts at this sort of thing. They're well used to people trying to recover money from them and they know every legal argument & way out of accepting liability. They will try to ensure that the costs you incur in suing them will far exceed any benefit you might gain. Nevertheless, a court might agree that they have failed to live up to their contract and could award you compensation to cover all your costs.
You should start by contacting your nearest Citizens' Advice Bureau.

Renting Out My House In UK - Help Please- 5 Questions?

Hi and thanks, I have some questions I appreciate your time.

I need to rent out my house due to it being a one bedroom first time buyer type property and it wont sell. A similar house in my road is up for sale and interest has been minimal due to the lending climate. I now work eighty miles away in each direction and am taking on a 6 month rent near to work. Ok that is my situation. Staying here is not an option.

Questions

1- I am thinking of changing

Answer: Best bet by far is to go and talk to a local agent who handles property lettings. They'll have this sort of info at their fingertips (or should do!) plus a lot of other useful info.

Also worth getting a decent book on becoming a 'small landlord'. Ask at your library.
