What's The Difference Between Single Trip Travel Insurance And Backpacker Travel Insurance?

am going to LA for 3 months....not backpacking...but it seems to be cheaper (insurancewise)....what's the difference between single trip and backpacker???? and why the price difference???
what should i do?

Answer: I've used STA backpacker cover several times. The main differences between that and my current policy are things like repatriation, upper limit of cover( that doesn't change for emergencies) but does affect post op treatment.

Also single trip insurance can be quite restricting. the student policies can be for as much as 24 months.

I am looking for an alternative to BUNAC's travel insurance which is £200 for 6months!!

If anyone did BUNAC which alternative travel insurance did you go with and how much cheaper was it?

 The whole purpose of a cheap travel insurance policy is to get some sort of medical coverage and certainly coverage for belongings while you are traveling abroad.  Even so, the insurance simply wont cover those activities that backpackers engage in. The coverage does exist for backpackers, but understand that you need something to cover more than a cancellation. Standard Policies have restrictions and limitations on the activities that travelers could engage in even where they could go.  In this case it is always best to inform them exactly where you intend to be traveling at that time. All travel insurance is not made the same as a lot of backpackers have discovered....
