Driving To Canada In Rental Car, Need Insurance?

I am going to drive to Canada in a rental car. I have liability insurance in my home state Texas. I will get my rental car in New York. Do I need to purchase insurance fro my rental car if I drive to Canada?

Answer: Ask your insurance agent first. Also, your credit card might cover you. In either case if you return the vehicle with any damage on it the rental company will assess it and immediately charge that amount to your credit card. You'll then get a credit once the insurance company (yours or the credit cards insurance company) settles the claim, but in the meantime you will be carrying the charge on your account. Also, some rental agreements prohibit you from leaving the country with the vehicle. You may also be asked at the border if you own the vehicle. I have often been asked at the US border (coming from Canada) if I own the vehicle I'm driving - Canadian customs officials may do the same

Do I Need Insurance For My Rental Car When Driving Into Canada?

I'm renting a car at the Buffalo airport and then driving into Toronto.

I heard that I need to show proof of insurance when driving into Canada. Is this true?

I'd rather not get insurance for my rental car because it's an extra $21/day.

Answer: Yes it is mandatory law that you need insurance. Also its always better to have insurance as you never know when you get in need of insurance. I have seen many people get ripped of buy not opting for insurance. So its better that you opt for a good insurance and rather don't take any sort of risk.

How To Get Car Rental Insurance In Canada?

I am from BC. I will be travelling to Edmonton, Alberta soon and along with my cousin, we are planning on renting a car from Edmonton to travel to Calgary.

I have looked at prices online and even called few rental places (numerous times, I have been given different quotes over the phone - which is ridiculous). Anyways, what I am not able to understand is how we go about getting insurance. We are both under the age of 25, over 21. I understand that we will have to pay an underage driver

Answer: It depends upon the car rental company as some companies include insurance amount in their final quote and some don't. So people have insurance on their credit cards so they prefer renting car on them rather than taking any extra insurance. The person who is paying through his credit must be present at the time of handling of car and the other person which are entitled to drive the car must be specified as additional driver.

Car Rental Liability Insurance In Canada (Nova Scotia)?

I'm renting a car through Enterprise in Nova Scotia. My credit card covers any damage to my car, but does not offer third-party liability. I'm reading in some places that, in Canada, third-party liability is automatically included in rental rates due to government regulations. Still, I can't seem to find confirmation from Enterprise. I'm renting the car in the morning, so right now, I have no way to contact Enterprise. Does anybody know?

Answer: I don't know about Nova Scotia, but in Manitoba there is an automatic $200,000 liability insurance on a rented car. It isn't much, but the $1 million I carry on my own vehicle carries over to any car I rent or borrow in Canada or the US. Check with your own insurer to see if your TPL goes with you. Also check to see if your insurer can sell you a non-owned vehicle policy for the term you have the rental.

What Credit Card Has The Best Car Rental Insurance Plan Which Can Be Obtained In Canada?

Answer: I'm not sure its the best but the Royal Bank Gold Card offers car insurance I think, but if you live in BC and you have the roadstar package, you don't need any extra car rental insurance. It's already covered though your car insurance.

How does rental car insurance offered by credit card companies ...

I have credit cards which say they cover me for rental car insurance when I use the card to make the full payment for the rental. If I am in an accident, will the Credit Card insurance cover everything or will it also be charged to my regular car insurance company. beacuse when you get into an accident or if the vehicle is stolen they cover the car 100% no deductibles to you, even if the car was vadilized in the parking lot. so when you cover the car from the rental you have the option of full or basic. most cc will only cover only after you have exhausted your car insurance. Does it make sense for me to get the additional insurance from the rental agency (like Avis). basic means the car is covered 100% no matter what happens. insurance co tell you not to buy it beacause when you file a claim they make money off of your deductible. you don’t have to report it your insurance co so no high rates and no deductibles. I use to be a rental agent....
