Is there a law in NYS that says all health insurance companies are obligated to pay for a home birth?
I am having a home birth and want to find out if my health insurance company is obligated to pay. When I call them, they give me no answers. (Empire Blue Cross) Someone told me there was a law that in NY all insurance companies were obligated to pay for home birth
| Answer: That is true. Insurance companies in NY are obligated to cover home births, provided there is a doctor or a state-licensed midwife present at the birth. |

Question About New York Insurance Liability Guidelines -Auto Accident? |
Question by xxkittenluvxx143 | Posted in Insurance & Registration
I was wondering where I can find the way to look up the Liability Guidelines for New York State. I was in a car accident that the other girl Failed to yield the right of way (she had stop sign and I didnt) so i want to know according to NYS law, what is the highest percentage of liability they can give me when I was clearly not at fault acording to the police report and wittness statements.
| Answer: You can visit New York's insurance website. However, the specific payout coverages will be based on your insurance coverage and provisions. Therefore, I recommend that you review your Insurance policy's declaration page and attachments for that information. And, of course, you can also contact your agent or carrier but they will want to know why you are questioning the payout information. |

NYS Retirement Is Holding Life Insurance Policy "hostage"! I Need Help!? |
Question by Silhouette | Posted in Insurance
My ex-husband, recently deceased and only 4 months after the divorce was finalized, was a member of the NYS Retirement System. He kept my name on as the beneficiary of the life insurance policy, but, thanks to a law that is as new as July of 2008, I am no longer entitled to the benefit because I was listed as "spouse" and not "ex-spouse" or something to that effect. In our divorce agreement I relinquished the rights to his pension because we were both making about the same salary
Answer: If you are not executor or administrator of his estate, you cannot find anyone willing to talk to you, because you have no legal right to the money, or the information. "Ex spouse" doesn't give you access to information protected by privacy laws.
The good news is, if he listed "spouse" as beneficiary, and doesn't currently have one, the money will be paid to his estate. The executor of his estate, or administrator, will have to use it to pay off all his debts, and then his heirs will get it - whoever his will said, or if there was no will, the probate judge will distribute it - most likely to his children, as he has no current spouse. But there is absolutely |

New Company Personel Policy...NYS Labor Law? |
Question by sher_bear28 | Posted in Insurance
Our company "revamped" our personel policy and had A LOT of changes many of them are very petty. My question is this, can an employer remove your spouse from health insurance if it's already intact and has been since the beginning? This woman has been working here for 16 years! I'm sure it's only costing the company $400 per quarter if that. We are talking New York State labor law applies here only. Thanks for your input.
Answer: Yes, they can, as long as they delete spousal coverage across the board for all employees in that class.
And if you think it's costing them $100 a month to insure a 50 year old man, you're nuts. It's probably a lot closer to $500 a month for his coverage. |
