So I'm about to get he cash to buy a Ninja 250R. It'll be my first bike, and I'm very excited. But before I rush out and put the cash down, there's some things I need to look up. I live in Washington state, and I need to know about the insurance laws. Is it neccesary to have motorcycle insurance in Washington? If so, how much would I be looking at? I've gotten a speeding ticket in the past four years I've been on the road if that helps..

Question by Ronald D | Posted in Motorcycles

Answer: Even if the law does not require it, BUY IT ANYWAY FULL COVERAGE WITH UNDERINSURED/UNINSURED MOTORIST PROTECTION. Why? I had my first wreck ever in 37 years last June and they had only $25,000.00 in insurance which is $5,000.00 more than the minimum but my attorny is still fighting to cover all my bills, just 24 hours in the hospital cost $28,000.00 and they paid $8,000.00 on my Yamaha Silverado whjich I used to buy a Harley Sportster 883.as a replacement bike. My helmet is the only thing that saved my life as i flew over the car and landed face first on the hot Texas pavement. Especially on a Harley buy insurance. It does not cost that much.

Question by electric eccentic | Posted in Motorcycles
there are 2 major laws that seem to be causing more & more friction between police/politicians & free spirited motorcyclists.
they are the helmet laws & the noise pollution laws.
but instead of making all these rules & fines, what if there were to be a deal made out with insurance companies.
for I've seen commercials of a car insurance company (i believe it's state farm, or all state, but nonetheless...) that offers rewards & such for good drivers. can we
Answer: I asked my wife about that a few days ago. She's been in a major insurance company for 30+ years. She said no, that if there is no helmet law in a state, that they can't impose on that, or make a discount for riders who agree to always wear a helmet. She can't elaborate on that (typical insurance company gal I guess, all smoke and mirrors, even to her husband!), but she says they can't make the people they cover wear a helmet if the state they live in says they don't have to.
My friend who rides told me that the law does not require you to have insurance if you ride a motorcycle. He said it's only an option if you want to purchase insurance or not. Is there any truth to this??
OH, and the state is Florida, if that matters.
