In February 2008 the Boston Globe reported that Commonwealth Care covered 169,000 people and had a projected cost of $618 million for the fiscal year. By June 2011 enrollment is projected to grow to 342,000 people at an annual expense of $1.35 billion. The original projections were for the program to ultimately cover approximately 215,000 people at a cost of $725 million.
In March 2008 (a scant 2 years into the program) the Boston Globe reported that some “safety-net” hospitals serving low-income individuals in urban areas were facing budget shortfalls due to the combination of reduced “free-care” payments from the state and low enrollment
Insurance For H-4 Visa Holder In Massachusetts?
Question by Mazda | Posted in Insurance
I am on H1b visa here in US and my spouse is with me on H-4. My employer doesn't give us any health insurance. We are in Massachusetts which requires us to have health insurance. I have SSN but my wife doesn't have one instead she has ITIN (individual tax identification number). So I need to buy health insurance for both of us. Do you have any information or personal experience about or with Massachusetts health insurance companies ? Which of them gives my wife coverage under my insurance policy?
Answer: Most of those visa holders, get coverage through their employer.
Health Connector is the official state broker for health insurance. If they're telling you she can't be covered, she can't be covered - unless you can talk your employer into adding the both of you on.

A new survey released yesterday by the Massachusetts Medical Society reveals that fewer than half of the state's primary care practices are accepting new patients, down from 70% in 2007, before former Governor Mitt Romney's health-care plan came online. The average wait time for a routine checkup with
Answer: It is. I used to live in the UK, and that is exactly how it goes. There simply is no incentive for young people or already certified general doctors to accept patients.
In the UK, because everything was "free", over 52% of the people who went to the hospital could have stayed home and took care of themselves, but since it's all "free", hey, why not go to the hospital? Doesn't cost me anything.
There was a girl there who was 19 who needed a pamp smear. She was told she wasn't old enough, so she came back at 23. Still not old enough. When she was 25, she got the test and by then had full blown cervical cancer and died.
