Want To Help With CA Legislation To Make Sure Health Insurance Provides Maternity/pregnancy Coverage?

I am working on a bill in the California State Legislature to close a loophole in the law that is allowing some health insurance companies to sell policies that don't provide pregnancy care. If you've been in this situation (insured and pregnant without maternity coverage) and would like to share your story and help pass the bill to help other moms and families, please get in touch. Thanks!

Answer: I think this is wonderful frankly. I quit a job when I read the health insurance policy. The owner of the small company was done having kids so saw no reason to continue carrying maternity coverage for his employees. 5 other employees quit after I did for the same reason (one had a wife who was already pregnant- big surprise for HIM).

I Am Currently Uninsured And Looking For Health Insurance With Maternity Coverage, How Long After I Get Healt?

I am Currently Uninsured and looking for Health insurance with Maternity Benifits, How long after i get Health insurance do I have to wait before i get pregnant?

Answer: Most places won't cover a delivery until 10 months after starting coverage.
I got lucky because I fell into a loophole (I had catastrophic coverage while in college and that still counts as having health insurance). Get coverage before you try to get pregnant, if you get pregnant first then no one will insure you.

Health Insurance With Maternity Coverage Options?

I'm looking for health insurance that I can have for basic coverage, and at somepoint (if needed) add maternity coverage. Everything I have looked at so far will only cover pregnancy if it is elected from the very beginning (and before conception). The problem is - maternity coverage is expensive - an additional $200 or $300 a month. My husband and I have had difficult time getting pregnant, and the one time we did, it didn't work out. The point is - I need coverage that is truely optional -

Answer: Unfortunately you are seeking a plan of coverage that no insurer is likely to offer. Maternity related medical expenses can be huge and the only way an insurer will cover those costs is by spreading the costs over many non-pregnant policyholders.

Since some people choose to go without maternity coverage (due to expense or inability to have children for example) many insurers make such coverage optional. However they cannot allow you to add such coverage on little notice. It just doesn't make business sense.

A few plans I have dealt with allow adding maternity coverage with at least one year's elimination period - you have to pay the added premium for at least

What Is The Better Option Regarding Health Insurance. Maternity Rider Or Coverage With Maternity Covered & Why

I'm trying to figure out if it's better to have a plan with a maternity rider option or take a plan that already covers maternity. I found a plan that allows maternity rider to be added on later and the monthly premium is less per month. But regardless if it's with a rider or no- the waiting period is still 12 months.

Which way is the best option? My husband and I aren't planning for kids for another couple of years but want to be covered when the time is right.

Answer: Any maternity coverage with an individual plan is more of a pre-payment plan than insurance because the insurance company knows only people who are planning on becoming pregnant will get it. If you do the math with the waiting period and extra premium you'll find that you'll be better off paying cash for the delivery. You can save the extra premium money in a savings account or, if you have an HSA qualified plan, into the HSA account. Almost all individual policies will cover complications of pregnancy, such as a c-section, even if you don't have maternity coverage so you'll be protected on most plans.

How Can I Find Inexpensive Health Insurance With Maternity Coverage?

Low premiums, Low out of pocket costs, Low deductibles

Answer: The ONLY way to get this is to get hired on for a job with great benefits, and even then the exclusionary period may say you have no pregnancy coverage until nine months after you sign up. Other than that, nothing is priced low.

What is the best type of health insurance for my wife and I during ...

You could apply for an individual health insurance plan on the open market (either temporary or permanent) if you are fairly healthy and find a much cheaper rate than the expensive COBRA group health insurance plan – however your wife will not be... If during this time you need to use the insurance then you have to pay full price for COBRA but if you find a job offering group plans during that time you have received two months of coverage for "free" Unless you can get another employer based... Technically you have coverage as long as you have the COBRA "Option" usually you have 62 days to let the insurance company know that want to pick up the COBRA coverage. Your other option is to contact your doctor and chosen hospital for cash rates for pregnancy and get insurance for all of you after the delivery....
