What Is (HIPAA) Insurance Portability And Accountability Act?

in short terms what is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) ? just an act of privacy? any thing else that needs to be known

Answer: It also allows for "insurance portability" meaning that as long as you do not have a lapse in coverage any pre-existing conditions will be treated from the minute the insurance is in effect.
- if there is a lapse in coverage most insurance companies require a 1-2 year waiting limit before covering pre-existing conditions
- a lapse in coverage is considered anytime (1 min+) that you are not covered by medical insurance.

How Is HIPAA(Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act Of 1996) Related To Computers And Technology?

I have to re-search how Hipaa is related to computers and technology! How is HIPPA implemented into the technology we use in our hospitals and doctor offices today? I know there are a number of ways but I dont know where to start, can anyone help me?

Answer: This is a tough question. I think that one way HIPAA has effected computers and techonology is through requiring all computers/stations to be locked when not in use, and requiring a password to log on. Access to information that you do not need is being more restricted, and a lot of sytems now keep track of all the information you review to make sure you only use it for business reasons.

How Did HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act) Start And Whats The Purpose Of It Anyway?

Still don't get this because I find no one follows it (even professionals) and me as well. Even when they say they take it very seriously.

Answer: HIPAA was set up to protect our privacy, specifically our personal health information. It was designed to address issues like discrimination, insurance rates, and embarrassment that resulted when a person's medical history was disclosed.

It's an important law... too bad more people don't respect it.
