I Was Told Sam's Offers Group Health Insurance To Members, Who Else Does?
Question by OldBones | Posted in Insurance
I am a recently divorced and I am looking for health insurance. A friend told me I could get it cheaper on a group policy. She said that Sam's Club and Cosco offer group insurance to their members. What other membership companies offer group insurance?
Answer: Sam's and Cosco aren't actually offering to get you on to a GROUP policy. Only employers can offer group policies. They're offering to get you an individually rated quote with one of their preferred carriers.
Completely different thing.
Membership companies do NOT offer group insurance, except to their EMPLOYEES.
Whats The Difference Of Family Health Insurance And Group Health Insurance? Whats The Best? Cheap Companies?
Question by A | Posted in Insurance
Answer: BEST? There isn't a standard, so you'll have to compare each policy. Family Health Insurance is a policy that covers the whole family. It will be individually underwritten, so that if one person has a serious issue (like diabetes) either the condition will be excluded and the rates will be hiked through the roof, or the policy will flat out be declined.
Group health is when an employer insures a bunch of employees. Rates are "group rates" based on age and size of the group - and sometimes families are included, at the option of the employer.
Group health is generally cheaper, both because the group is larger and the rate gets averaged, and because
Are There Any Associations One Can Join That Would Then Give You Access To Group Health Insurance?
Question by ron j | Posted in Insurance
From my research so far, it appears that if you have a group health care coverage, it tends to be cheaper than if you have to buy the insurance yourself. For example, a family of 4 may pay as much as $700 a month or more for some decent coverage, but perhaps group coverage from your employer may cost you $400 or so. But if your employer does not offer it, are there any associations that offer health insurance to their members? Associations that anyone can join?
Answer: i live in indiana; the AARP plan is only a supplemental plan or they offer a hospital plan that from i read is basically a supplemental plan also;
my husband has parkinsons disease and uninsurable in the state of indiana; i am healthy and filled out a individual application and was surprised that they needed a 10 year history of every illness or exam i ever had; i was suprised since auto and home is only 3 years, but calculated that if someone had cancer and was over the 5 year survival rate, they would be uninsurable since they had had cancer;
i found out the hard way that if you have a pre-exisiting condition, they cannot insure you on an individual policy
Laid - off, and our group(family) Health Insurance will expire in a month. There is an option to elct COBRA but I don't know how it works.
I applied for MEDICAL(County) for the four of us(two children) but we received a notice of denial because we have more than $3K in savings.
I know that it will just get drained in a snap as we have $1.7K in credit balance and will pay rent, car payment, bills etc.
As of now no money is getting in, and double time applying for a job
Answer: Within 10 days of losing the health insurance coverage, you will get the COBRA information. COBRA is the exact same insurance you have now except that the cost is different. Instead of the employee paying part and the employer part, the employee is responsible for 100% of the cost (officially). However, since you were laid off before 12/31/09, there is a current Federal law that the government will pay 65% of the COBRA cost. This is part of the stimulus package. I think the discounted rate lasts for 9 months (i'm not 100% sure of the timeline).
Group Health Insurance More Expensive Than Individual?

On Aetna's HDHP 3000 plan, I was quoted $120/month online for individual coverage, whereas our HR firm quoted $279/month for Aetna's HDHP 3000 in group coverage. I've always heard that group coverage is cheaper than individual. What's going on here?
